About Us

Over the last 2 years Farrar and Son has employed and average of 16 employees. We employ a full range of tradesmen including bricklayer, plasterer, plumber, electrician, joiner and decorator. All our employees work for Farrar and Son on a PAYE basis so that we can ensure that we deliver the right tradesmen to our projects when they are required. This ensures all our projects run smoothly.

Our customer base is split equally between domestic and commercial clients.

Our commercial client base ranges from private limited companies to public bodies such as Trinity and All Saints College, Bradford NHS Care Trust, Leeds City Council, Airedale Primary Care Trust and Fulneck School

Our domestic projects range from small repair work to single and double storey extensions, loft conversions, cellar conversions and garage conversions.

 

Associations

 

 

  • The FMB is a trade association established over 60 years ago to protect the interests of small and medium-sized building firms – today it is the largest trade association in the UK building industry.
  • The FMB is a source of knowledge, professional advice and support for its members, providing a range of modern and relevant business building services to save them time and money.
  • The FMB is independent and non-profit-making, lobbying continuously for members' interests at both national and local levels.

 

 

FMB MasterBond was one of the first and is the largest scheme to be part of TrustMark. With the added peace of mind that comes from TrustMark, customers who employ an FMB MasterBond builder will have the added security of further checks having been carried out on the building company. FMB MasterBond builders, vetted and inspected builders who

  • have a minimum three year trading history.
  • have their work vetted by an independent body at least every 3 years. All new members from May 2007 have to be inspected prior to their membership being accepted by the MasterBond Warranty Scheme. This is the only scheme in the UK that inspects building companies in this manner.*
  • builders who wish to join the scheme have to provide 6 client references and at least 3 are confirmed and checked by our Membership Department. We also contact a building professional who can confirm that building company's technical competence.
  • have passed independent financial and other checks.
  • have met with local FMB Branch approval.
  • have public and employer liability insurance.
  • have no un-discharged bankruptcies or relevant and outstanding County Court Judgments against company directors at the time of application. It is always sensible to run a credit check yourself on a building company before you sign a contract with your FMB MasterBond building company.
  • are VAT registered.
  • have passed credit checks, public record and director checks.
  • have confirmed their commitment to the FMB and TrustMark's Code of Practice.

 

 

The European Builders Confederation is an organization that represents, promotes and defends the interests of builders and craftsmen throughout Europe. It achieves this goal through political lobbying and by working in association with the national groups. In the UK it is associated with the Federation of Master Builders.

 

 

TrustMark is a government backed standards initiative. TrustMark approved tradesmen have been deemed to be trustworthy and reliable.

 

 

In 1997 a group of health and safety and procurement professionals from across Great Britain worked with the Association of London Government (ALG) to develop CHAS. In 2001 CHAS became a web-based system.

CHAS started with two main aims.

  1. To improve health and safety standards across Great Britain.
  2. To reduce duplicated safety applications for both suppliers and buyers.

These days they have more than 400 public and private sector buyer organisations, such as councils, housing associations, NHS trusts, including a growing number of large private companies who employ sub-contractors.

 

 

Owned by BIS, Constructionline is a contributor to the Rethinking Construction initiative. It is the UK's register of pre-qualified construction contractors and consultants. Constructionline is designed to streamline pre-qualification procedures, to save valuable resources in the construction industry, rendering it more efficient and effective.
Over 18,000 contractors and consultants are registered with Constructionline and have all met pre-qualification requirements supported by BIS. These requirements can be found on the Constructionline website at http://www.constructionline.co.uk/. They cover the full spectrum of construction activities from architecture to demolition and range in size from small specialists to the largest main contractors.

 

 

The Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) was established in 2002, following a merger of the British Decorators' Association and the Painting & Decorating Federation. The British Decorators' Association was originally founded in 1894. With some 2,500 members this new organisations is Britain's largest trade body dedicated to the painting and decorating trade. Members include sole traders through to large-scale national contractors. Decorators looking to become members of the PDA are rigorously vetted prior to admission. Members are committed to the highest standards in health and safety practice, as well as training development.
